LemLem Talks To: Last Japan

Facebook celebrity and regular afromullets collaborator LemLem is talking to one of our favorite producers again. This time around she had the chance to exchange a few words with Last Japan. We honestly didn't know much about him. Only that he made excellent grime infused 2step/garage beats and has a fine taste in women (according to his tumblr). Let's get on with the programme before I bore you any further.

LL: Why is your name Last Japan?
Last Japan: There's no real reason behind the name. It was a random choice.
LL: What music did you grow up with?
Last Japan: Lots of different genres of music such as Soul, Funk, Rock, Blues, and some Classical.
LL: Have your parents or friends influenced you at all with your music or with the music you listen to?
Last Japan: My parents are who got my musical influences and tastes from. They used to listen to music a lot so I was around it from an early age.

LL: What was the first album/CD you ever bought?
Last Japan: I think it was an All Saints album haha jheeze.
LL: If you could work with any artist (dead or alive) who would it be?
Last Japan: Otis Redding
LL: What song have you had on repeat for the last week?
Last Japan: Sin City and Higher by G.O.O.D Music, amazing tracks!
LL: Favorite gig so far?
Last Japan: There's been so many good ones over the years! Stealth (Nottingham), Trash Dance (Italy) are a couple of my faves.
LL: Favourite club so far?
Last Japan: Corsica Studios
LL: Strange addiction?
Last Japan: Marshmallow Fluff
LL: Do you have any pre show rituals that you always follow?
Last Japan: Drinking too much? ha

LemLem Talks To: Medlar

Friend and Vienna club scene correspondent LemLem caught up with with English producer Medlar who is affiliated with the Wolf Music, record label that deals predominantly in enriching the world in banging house tracks. Other known producers in the Wolf Music family are Greymatter and KRL who are also worth checking out. Medlar will be playing in Pratersauna this Saturday (11th August 2012) along with labelmate KRL for Praterei #30. Quite frankly, this is where you want to be in Vienna this Saturday. Now let's get acquainted with Medlar.

LL: Why the name Medlar ?
Medlar: I heard the word on Gardener's Question time on radio 4 at my dad's house last year and thought it was quite cool. apparently it's a tree/fruit and yes it is cool to listen to Gardener's Question time in the UK. It's kinda like Rinse FM. 
LL: What do you think of people who download your music without paying? 
Medlar: I don''t blame or judge people for it, it's partly a generational issue I think. It obviously provides a lot of exposure for artists. I'd encourage people to consider the labels and artists involved though, if you like them, give them some money 
LL: If you could collaborate with any musician from any era, who would it be? 
Medlar: Wow, cool question! So many options. At the moment I'd probably say one of the Chicago or Detroit house/techno pioneers from the late 80s. I'll choose Larry Heard 
LL: Why exactly larry heard over all the other legends? 
Medlar: Quite a rash answer I guess, but his Mr Fingers tracks for me are better than the vast majority of house music since. Would be fascinating to see where he was coming from at that time, what his point of reference was - if any 
LL: What's one song you've had on repeat for the last week? 
Medlar:  
LL: Top three favorite clubs in the world? Ones you played at or ones you simply like going to.

Medlar: Ones ive played at..: + Jesus Club in St Petersburg + Corsica Studios, London aaand.. erm + Stealth in Nottingham; have been the most fun to play at. 
LL: What's the craziest thing that happened to you during a gig? 
Medlar: I can only think of a couple of times when i got embarrassingly drunk and fell over/dropped records everywhere. I've stopped that now though.  
LL: If you could choose any artist to play b2b with who would it be? 
Medlar: I think it would be too intimidating to pick some people. I love playing with KRL, Greymatter and the Wolf Music guys. Kutmah would be cool though, he'd steal the show. 
LL: How excited are you about your gig in vienna and what have you heard about the club scene here? (or what you heard about Praterei) 
Medlar: I'm so hyped for Vienna, lots of people I've met through music have told me to expect lots of fun at Praterei, and it's officially my birthday party too. I know nothing about the city so looking forward to exploring a bit, any tips would be welcome! 

LL: How excited are you about meeting me!? 
Medlar: More excited than christmas of course. and i'm fully expecting an extravagant birthday cake now

LemLem Speaks to Drop/Dead

My good friend LL, who you got to know from an earlier post exchanged some words with London producer Drop/Dead. Here's what happened:

LL: Why is your name Drop/Dead?

D/D: Not sure but I wish it wasn't. Or do I... I don't know. I have since made other names to compensate just no one knows about them.

LL: Who and what are your influences?

D/D: FXHE / STL / Skull Disco

LL: What kind of music did you grow up with?

D/D: Talking Heads, Neil Young & Radiohead (Plus Caspa & Rusko's Fabric mix but I'd count that as a minor blip).

LL: What artists would you like to work with in the future?

D/D: Shed, 2562, Marcellus Pittman, FaltyDL, Inga Copeland, Kassem Mosse... One can but dream. 

LL: What's your favourite tune at the moment?

D/D: Unbroken Dub - Sovushka.1

LL: What does your perfect day look like? This ones not too easy i know!

D/D: Bloody Marys and Sunday Roast - Just been shown the light. Bit of sun wouldn't go amiss either. 

LL: If you could have any groupie who would it be and why?

D/D: Probably Nina Kraviz 'cause I might not bore the hell out of her and she's a bit of alright.2 

LL: What's the sexiest tune out there?

D/D: Tevo Howard - The Age of Compassion. Or maybe Beach Boys - All I Wanna Do if it has to have lyrics... I guess neither of them are really that sexy anyway. I'm sure for someone it would be Look, Hear, Watch by Omar-S but I guess its a matter of taste. Lets just say something by Marvin Gaye and we'll leave it there.3

LL: Best sleep over game? 

D/D: Not sure, I'm currently searching for a house so I guess it would have to be 'find the house'? 

LL: What's the weirdest thing that happened to you during a gig?

D/D:I am subject to the same amount of heckling and Major Lazer requests as everyone else.
