When she's not shocking her friends and subscribers, LemLem talks to DJs and producers. This time around she sat down with Nvie Motho. He is an up and coming producer straight out of the city we are repping: VIENNA. He's gotten a bit of attention on the web for his remix of Jeremih's Fuck U All The Time and is about to release his debut EP. Check out the interview and support his Facebook/Soundcloud page.
LL: Why is your name Nvie Motho?
Nvie Motho: It's an anagram for "Ohne Motiv" (German for "without motive")
LL: You could say that there has been a heavy increase of Austrian EDM producers as of late, such as the likes of Cid Rim, Dorian Concept, etc., etc., and of course yourself. Are there any other Austrian musicians (recent and old) that you would say have had an influence on your personal work?
Nvie Motho: There are so many good producers around here! And of course you get influenced by the musicians around you, although I don't think that my sound is very similar to the typical Affine Records sound, though I really like their stuff. In terms of producing, I would say LbS had a really big influence on me. When I moved to Vienna he was the first guy who I knew who had an MPC and he showed me a lot of ways to produce music. We worked a long time together and we were always exchanging beats and new ideas about producing.
LL: Are groupies getting younger or older?
Nvie Motho: The older you get, the less you pay attention to age... is their any way to answer this question in a non creepy way?
LL: What do you like most about living in Vienna?
Nvie Motho: Vienna has a very unique feeling. In musical terms, you got all this heavy classical music with its history hanging all over the place and on the other hand you have a very young and inspiring electronic scene. Besides that its just a very chilled out big city.
LL: How is your tour with Gerard going so far?
Nvie Motho: Its pretty cool so far, we played as a support for "Die Orsons" in several cities in Germany and its really big fun. The cool thing is, that the audience is listening to our new songs for the first time and you get an immediate reaction on what works and what doesn't.
LL: Your favorite/most memorable gig ever was...
Nvie Motho: Hmm... Aren't the best gigs the ones you can't remember? Haha... Well, on this tour our electronic drum pad crashed at one gig as we played our second song and then there was this loud disturbing sound... I needed like 3 minutes to find out which device broke down, but Gerald entertained the audience in this break pretty well, and some fans asked if we planned it, because we handled it so well...
LL: When did you start making music and what music did you grow up with?
Nvie Motho: I started at age 6 with the recorder, then piano with 8 and drums with 13, but I was never really into practicing until I was around 20 and decided that I want to study music. I listened to a lot of punk music and played in a punk band when I was 16 and I was sued by the CDU [Germany's Christian conservative party] because of a song I wrote. Besides that I listened to a lot of German rap when I was between 13 and 16.
LL: What's the best beverage to drink while listening to your music?
Nvie Motho: Definitely Mexikaner from the bottle... in huge amounts!
LL: I know you like to travel. If you could live in any city in the world, which one would it be and why?
Nvie Motho: Wow that's a difficult one... I'm moving to Lisbon next year for a few months...but besides that, I spent a month in Bogota and really wanna go back there... and Buenos Aires... and Rio... ahhh too many... but yeah, I really love the South American vibe.
LL: Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
Nvie Motho: Yes please! I'd like that and some hot spicy duck sauce to it.
LL: Oh and how has your life changed ever since you met me?
Nvie Motho: Well, I could ask you the same, but you're definitely enhancing my Facebook experience!
Nvie Motho's debut release is scheduled for the first quarter of next year. While you are waiting for that, why not subscribe or follow LL to enhance your Facebook/Twitter experience.
