Daily Dope: Steven Jo does the Cinnamon Challenge

He also has a mixtape available for download, but it's nothing special.
For reference, this is how it's done.

Brainfeeder Sampler 2012

Brainfeeder won the "Label of the Year" award at the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards. In order to give thanks for all the fans that made it possible, they've decided to release a free 12-track label sampler. Surprisingly there is no track from FlyLo, but don't worry these are some great tracks from 12 talented/awesome artists signed to Brainfeeder. Go over at Brainfeedersite, provide your email and download this great sampler.

God Bless America

This man is a hero. IMDB

Michael Imperial-Secret Drugs/Volume One

Don't judge the music by its album cover. Just by looking at the cover I was expecting some pop/R&B music, then I listened to Nicole and realized I was wrong. Nicole is a heavily bass-loaded track with some sexy vocals, that he sampled from Nicole Wray's track.
This is a great post-dubstep EP that doesn't have a single song worth skipping. So go over to his Bandcamp and get this EP, its only $5.

Monokle - Birds Swirl EP

Another release in the wave of post-something genres we've been seeing all over the place recently. Russian producer Monokle mixes organic guitar sounds with heavy basslines and beats that fall somewhere along the increasingly blurry boundary between hip-hop and post-dubstep. There's also a distinct atmospheric quality to his tracks that reminds me of post-rock, or perhaps of what Boards of Canada would sound like if they took less drugs. This one's a must-listen.

Daily Dope: Years

Austrian artist Bartholomäus Traubeck has created a record player that analyzes the rings in a slice of wood, then translates this data into musical notes and plays it. His own description doesn't go into too much detail, but it appears as if the notes are constrained so that they make melodical sense. This makes the whole thing slightly less exciting, but it's still a good watch. Reminds me of the beautifully desolate piano pieces by Arvo Pärt.

Daily Dope: Star Wars Uncut

Star Wars Uncut is an online project to crowd-source an all-out remake of Episode IV. They've cut up the entire movie into 15 second segments, and let people remake and share individual slices. Now, two guys have stitched together some highlights and uploaded an entire full-length remix. A New Hope, Web 2.0 style.

The result is a little unsettling at first because everything changes, all the time, but it is also nothing short of genius. You'll laugh, you'll cry, but mainly you'll be saying 'WTF' a lot.

Running time: 124 minutes

PIPA and SOPA Blackout

Afromullets stands in solidarity with countless other websites and webizens to raise awareness of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act), two bills up for vote in the U.S. Congress that would censor and slow the growth of the Internet. See what Google and Wikipedia have to say about SOPA and PIPA.

Everything is Everything

While randomly searching for new music on the internet I came across Nuevaforma, a audio/visual recordlabel. This is how I found out about Damon Sheeleys ,of The Bear and the Sea, EP - "Everything is Everything". It reminded me a lot of fshtsks EP "The Friendly Hip Hop" as it shares a similar concept/idea. Damon took acappelas of 5 hip-hop classics and layered them over his own hazy/chilled out beats -"a tribute to hip hop through my hazy musical filter". I'm glad I found this and I do recommend it to you, especially if you thought fshstks EP was dope. You can stream the whole EP on his soundcloud/bandcamp or download it straight from here.

Ghost Mutt - Sweat Mode EP

"Twisting RnB vocals around his own signature rhythmic take on bass music, on the Sweat Mode EP Ghost Mutt melds elements of soul, boogie and house creating a homage to the time when Rnb was more about being with your lover in front of an open log fire than drinking champagne and getting sweaty in the VIP section of the club."
2012 is getting better and better. Ghost Mutt just released a free, 4 track EP of Keith Sweat reworks. If you've been listening to the new modernized R&B tracks that came out of several producers last year, I suggest you give this a listen. So get on his bandcamp and get this free EP.

2012 Looks Promising

To those that check our blog from time to time I am sorry for not updating it a lot more during the holidays. During this break some of us were busy: Mirakle had two live performances over the Christmas Break, on top of that he teamed up with Left Boy to make a catchy track "Video Games"
Make sure you favorite the track at hypem.
Stewiwionda was djing b2b with Sofie at Pom de Grenade; Jakob aka Dj Philth and fshstk tried out their skills at djing on New Years. I on the other hand was too busy being lazy so I'll try to make it up to you by making a small list of some stuff I listened to in past few weeks. Clams Casino released a remastered 320kbps version of his mixtape "Instrumentals". This was one of my favorite mixtapes in 2011 so getting this in 320 meant I had this on repeat and still do. Make sure you download this you wont regret it. Then right after New Years I stumbled across Evian Christ. No one knows much about him except that he made some impressive tracks. MYD was Today's Track few days ago and if you liked it I suggest you listen to the rest of his tracks. 5 days later The Daily Street decided to get Ifan Dafydd on their mixtape series. 2012 couldn't have started any better. If you follow us on Facebook you probably heard of it, but if you haven't make sure you do: And just like that some of my favorite artists started releasing tracks: Jacques Green released "Clark" from his forthcoming EP - Concealer (Jan. 30th) Shlohmo released "wenn uu", one of the tracks that will be on his new 3 song EP - Vacation (Feb. 7th) and soon after he released a remix of "Lianne La Havas - Forget". Around a day ago two brothers that go under the name Disclosure droped their new track titled "Flow": Kidnap Kid aswell decided to show off some of his new stuff. Few hours ago he just released "Lazarus Taxon". Today, while checking out my mail I found out that Stones Throw was nice enough to give us a free download of Jonti's album Sine & Moon
It's Jonti, it's free, so why not download it
I hope this will do for now. It looks like 2012 is going to be a good year and we will try to update you guys as much as we can this year. Thanks for following us.

Left Boy feat. Mirakle - Video Games

Left Boy chops up and samples the ever-present Lana Del Rey song, and calls on fellow Viennese rapper Mirakle to share the mic with him. What follows is a frenzy of witty video game references and puns over a great re-imagination of the original track. Free download available on soundcloud.
Hit them on Twitter and let them know what you think! @LeftBoy @KareemKateb

Today's Track: MYD

Jhameel

Jhameel is very talented musician from the Bay Area who graduated from UC Berkeley in just 2 years, and is currently making a killing with his unique blend of indie-style music and magical voice. His accolades thus far include multiple Hype Machine chart toppers, being featured in Forever 21 stores, and almost 4000 facebook fans. I went to one of his shows in Oakland last year where he put out a brilliant and energetic performance, and have been wanting to share his work on afromullets for a while, so Jhameel if you're reading this, consider it a belated new year's present :) Jhameel's music can be found on jhameel.com, his facebook page, and his youtube channel. Personally, I really enjoy watching his drunk performances celebrating every 1000 fans, which is more than enough reason to give him a 'like' while checking out his music... Happy New Year afromulleteers, and have an awesome 2012!
