LemLem Talks To: Last Japan

Facebook celebrity and regular afromullets collaborator LemLem is talking to one of our favorite producers again. This time around she had the chance to exchange a few words with Last Japan. We honestly didn't know much about him. Only that he made excellent grime infused 2step/garage beats and has a fine taste in women (according to his tumblr). Let's get on with the programme before I bore you any further.

LL: Why is your name Last Japan?

Last Japan: There's no real reason behind the name. It was a random choice.
LL: What music did you grow up with?
Last Japan: Lots of different genres of music such as Soul, Funk, Rock, Blues, and some Classical.
LL: Have your parents or friends influenced you at all with your music or with the music you listen to?
Last Japan: My parents are who got my musical influences and tastes from. They used to listen to music a lot so I was around it from an early age.

LL: What was the first album/CD you ever bought?
Last Japan: I think it was an All Saints album haha jheeze.
LL: If you could work with any artist (dead or alive) who would it be?
Last Japan: Otis Redding
LL: What song have you had on repeat for the last week?
Last Japan: Sin City and Higher by G.O.O.D Music, amazing tracks!
LL: Favorite gig so far?
Last Japan: There's been so many good ones over the years! Stealth (Nottingham), Trash Dance (Italy) are a couple of my faves.
LL: Favourite club so far?
Last Japan: Corsica Studios
LL: Strange addiction?
Last Japan: Marshmallow Fluff
LL: Do you have any pre show rituals that you always follow?
Last Japan: Drinking too much? ha

Editors Note: Much love to LL and LJ for taking their time to do this. Make sure you check out some of Last Japan's music on Beatport/Soundcloud and follow Lem Lem on her Twitter.

"How Clubbing Changed The World"

Idris Elba, probably more known as Stringer Bell from HBO's 'The Wire' hosted this documentary that was released on UK's Channel 4 that goes through each significant moment in clubbing history that gives you a pretty well-rounded picture of how we came about to dancing to repetitive electronic sounds in the clubs today. If you try and ignore how corny Idris Elba has become since he left the streets of Baltimore, it's actually pretty good. Whilst all moments captured here can be seen as vital in defining clubbing today, it was more focused around the US and the UK ignoring some instrumental moments from other European cities. Enjoy.

Today's Track: Changes

A single from Danny Brown's upcoming album "Danny Johnson". The whole album is produced by Johnson & Jonson (Blu & Mainframe), yes!

Vermibus

Berlin based artist, Vermibus, has a very interesting way of transforming advertising posters from the street. Using solvents and brushes he mutates super-models on these fashion posters making them look like mummies or ghosts. While the end images might be creepy to some, the use of solvents to manipulate the ink is interesting. Anyways check out the video about his manipulation process above and check out his nightmarish paintings below.  Smiley face Smiley face Smiley face

The LOL Boys: No longer LOLing

A ripple of sadness emanated through the internet last night that was felt in the hearts of music heads all over the world. The production powerhouse known as LOL Boys decided to call it quits. They will officially be releasing one final remix EP before they go dark. This is real sad news, but as a final parting present they have released a zip file of all edits from a recent mix they did for the Fader. You'll find remixes of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe", Kanye West's "Mercy" and Avicii's "Levels" and many others. Pay your final respects to the LOL Boys by DOWNLOADING.

XX - Coexist

On September 11th XX will release their long awaited album since their debut one in 2009. If you haven't gotten the leak few weeks ago and you just can't wait to listen to the album, the XX were so nice and they have made the Coexist available to stream. Stream it below.

JJ DOOM Mix

If you haven't already heard the Key to the Kuffs by JJ DOOM (Jneiro Jarel X DOOM) I suggest you take some time off to listen to it. While it might not be the best I've heard from MF DOOM, I still enjoyed the album. To celebrate the release of JJ DOOM's album Jneiro Jarel has made a 35-minute mix containing the tracks that influenced his production on this album and alongside those there are a few remixes and brand new tracks on this mix. So while you're waiting for your order/download of Key to the Kuffs, give this mix a listen.

Street Knowledge: How Taking Drugs Will Influence Your Art

Bryan Lewis Saunders takes drugs to expand humanity's knowledge on drugs and its effect on the brain. More specifically on the effects on a persons creativity. In a potentially self-harming experiment, Bryan Saunders has taken a plethora of illegal substances in a controlled manner to observe how each drug affects his ability to draw a self-portrait of himself. I find this wildly disturbing and fascinating at the same time. Head over to his site to see them all while you can see some of our favourites right here:

1 sm Glass of "real" Absinth (not the fake crap)

10mg Ambien

Bath Salts

2 bottles of Cough Syrup

10mg Loritab

15mg Buspar (Snorted)

3mg Klonopin
